WE KNOW MUSIC LICENSING
Music is an integral part of group fitness and can add to the already great experience provided by your studio location. Part of using music in group fitness classes is ensuring that you are compliant with copyright law through the securing of public performance licenses. This is necessary so that music copyright owners can be appropriately paid for their work.

How Rock My Fitness Studio Can Help
Rock My Fitness Studio is a commercial and business music licensed service. Gyms and fitness studios also need to obtain Fitness Licenses to publically perform music in order to be compliant with copyright law. Please note, a Fitness License is a requirement from the licensing agencies, not from Rock My Fitness Studio. Rock My Fitness Studio can help you navigate and obtain a Fitness License from all 4 PROs.
Why FOUR Licenses Are Necessary
SESAC, ASCAP, GMR, and BMI all represent different artists. To ensure that you can play any artist regardless of who they are signed with, it is highly recommended to secure all four licenses so your business is fully compliant.
How to Secure These Licenses
To obtain proper music PERFORMANCE licensing for your studio(s) you will need to complete appropriate forms with ASCAP, BMI, GMR, and SESAC. ASCAP, GMR, and SESAC have the entire process online. For BMI, you must complete a paper form and FAX it (or upload it).
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Can I use Spotify at my studio? No. We love Spotify, but the answer is no, you can’t. In fact none of the major music streaming apps is legal in a business/commercial setting. Read the Spotify Terms - "personal, non-commercial, entertainment use only." This means it can’t be played in public places such as gyms. But don't worry, we have the same workout music and we mix it specifically for the group fitness experience. Every song is hand-picked, we take the most upbeat portions of those songs and we mix them together seamlessly so there are no awkward pauses between songs. This is something Spotify and other music streaming apps don’t do.
-
How can I play music legally at my gym?Rock My Fitness Studio comes standard with a commercial license allowing “background” music to be played in your fitness studio. However, you will need to obtain an additional license, usually called a Fitness Studio License, directly from the 4 PRO licensing agencies, which are SESAC, BMI, GMR, and ASCAP in the United States. This license will allow you to play music publicly in your gym or fitness studio. As a part of our services, we will help you determine if your business needs to secure these licenses.
-
Is it for studios/gyms only?Yes. Our product is only for fitness studios and gyms (businesses) that can use it to play workout background music.
-
What countries are you supported in?RockMyFitnessStudio is supported in the United States and multiple foriegn countries. If you plan to use the product outside the United States please check with us first.

-
What device do I need?Tablet or Mobile device. Our app is compatible with iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
-
How many locations from a single account? Our music licenses only allow one location per account. Each location has a unique physical address, email and password. It should not be shared with any other location. Also, individuals can not access the musical content when they are away from the licensed location as this violates the license agreement.
-
What does the service cost? The monthly music fee is $39.99/mo and includes the music and all necessary music licensing. As an intro, we do offer a free 30-day trial. You will find $39.99 to be very competitive in the business streaming marketplace and our DJ mix format is unique and superior to the single song solutions provided by our competition.
-
Do you have an explicit filter?RockMyFitness Studio does include an explicit filter since there are mixes both with and without explicit content. Most music services only remove explicit language; however, we understand the importance of having an explicit-free music experience for members so our non-explicit mixes remove both explicit language and explicit content.
-
What device do I need? You can use any Apple device on iOS 10.0 or newer or on Android devices that are compatible with version 4.0.3 or newer.
